| The Georgia International Tournament was held on the 4th of June 2006 in Tbilisi, the capital city of Georgia and was organised by Branch chief Nodari Kvanchiani. They organised a grand tournament with competitors from 5 countries, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iran and Hungary. Though the venue was the biggest sporting centre in Tbilisi, it was an old facility and will undergo a huge renovation after the tournament. The female team from Iran arrived at the airport in the morning and only just made it to the tournament, but this added to the enthusiasm. Iran and Hungary's strong fighters are very well known from previous international tournaments, however the three Kavkaz countries of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan also have veteran fighters representing them and each bout was fought at a high level, with many fights won by knockout. |
| The Iran female team appeared at the tournament wearing headscarves, and I am sure they will receive a lot of experience and strength by having the opportunity to participate in international tournaments. A heroic Kavkaz dance by young children and a demonstration by Sempai Irma Tamrazowa, who won the fighting spirit award at the last Female World Tournament in Japan, and other instructors enchanted the audience. It was well after 10:30pm when the tournament, which divisions included male, female and junior kumite was finished. |
